In light of the devastating wildfires sweeping through Los Angeles, several organizations have stepped up to support musicians and music industry professionals who’ve been directly affected. Among them are MusiCares, the NAMM Foundation, Sweet Relief Musicians Fund, and Guitar Center, all working to provide financial relief and resources during this challenging time.

Guitar Center, through its Music Foundation, is offering one-time grants to replace instruments and gear lost in the fires. If you’re an L.A.-based musician, music educator, or part of a music program, including after-school classes or therapy programs, you can apply. You’ll need to provide proof of your address or loss, and the application deadline is February 28. Submissions are being accepted on the Guitar Center Music Foundation website.

MusiCares is also coming through in a big way. They’re offering immediate and long-term financial support to music professionals affected by the disaster. This includes $1,500 to cover short-term evacuation expenses and $500 grocery cards for essentials. Beyond that, they’re ready to help with larger issues like damaged music equipment, medical needs, or even long-term relocation.

To qualify, you need at least three years of experience in the music industry or credits on six commercially released recordings. If you meet the criteria, reach out to them at [email protected]

Meanwhile, NAMM CEO John Mlynczak confirmed that the 2025 NAMM Show is still set to proceed as planned. At the same time, the NAMM Foundation has committed $50,000 to support those impacted by the fires, including NAMM members, their employees, music education programs, and musicians. More details about how to apply will be announced soon, but donations to the fund are already being accepted on the NAMM Foundation website.

Sweet Relief Musicians Fund is another vital resource for the industry. They’re providing immediate financial assistance to professionals and musicians who’ve made at least 50% of their income from music for at least three years. Applicants will need to provide proof of their music industry work, a bio, and documentation of their losses. Details are available on the Sweet Relief website.

The wildfires are being called the most destructive in Los Angeles history. With a death toll of 24, mandatory evacuation orders affecting over 105,000 residents, and expected damages exceeding $250 billion, the scale of the disaster is overwhelming.

But in these tough times, it’s heartening to see the music community rallying together to support those in need. If you or someone you know has been impacted, be sure to explore these resources.
