David Ellefson, former bassist of MEGADETH, has announced his “Bass Warrior” tour for spring 2025, taking him across Europe. During this tour, Ellefson and his solo band will perform a mix of MEGADETH hits, his own solo material, and hard rock and metal favorites that have inspired him throughout his 40-year music career.
When the “Bass Warrior” tour was first revealed, Ellefson shared: “I’ve always viewed my career as that of a musical warrior, with my bass guitar by my side. I’m excited to bring these songs back to the stage and share personal stories about their creation. It’s been an incredible journey filled with low notes and high stakes.”
Along with the tour announcement, Ellefson has collaborated with “American Idol” finalist James Durbin on a powerful version of the classic JUDAS PRIEST song “Metal Gods.” The track also features Ellefson’s solo band, including longtime friend and musical director Andy Martongelli. The song is available now on all digital platforms.
Ellefson explains: “As we announce the 2025 ‘Bass Warrior’ tour dates, it felt like the perfect time to release a track that defines heavy metal, and what better song than ‘Metal Gods’ by JUDAS PRIEST? We’re thrilled to have James Durbin on vocals. He’s got an incredible voice, and since he performed with PRIEST on ‘American Idol,’ this collaboration was meant to be.”
Durbin adds: “When David Ellefson and Andrea Martongelli reach out to cover JUDAS PRIEST, the answer is always ‘YES’! PRIEST and the late Ronnie James Dio are at the top of the heavy metal mountain for me. It’s an honor to cover their music, especially with David leading the charge.”
Ellefson’s version of “Metal Gods” was produced by Ellefson and Martongelli, with mixing by Alessio Garavello at Rogue Recording Studios in Wembley, U.K.
The musicians featured on the track include:
- James Durbin: Lead Vocals
- David Ellefson: Bass Guitar
- Andy Martongelli: Lead & Rhythm Guitars
- Walter Cianciusi: Lead Guitars
- Paolo Caridi: Drums
David Ellefson Bass Warrior Tour Dates
Ellefson’s time in MEGADETH has seen its ups and downs. He was fired from the band over three years ago after controversial messages and video footage surfaced. Having been with MEGADETH since its formation in 1983, Ellefson left in 2002, but returned in 2010 until his latest exit.
In 2004, Ellefson filed an $18.5 million lawsuit against frontman Dave Mustaine, alleging that Mustaine had shortchanged him on profits and reneged on a deal to transfer Megadeth Inc. to him after the band split in 2002. The lawsuit was eventually dismissed, and Ellefson rejoined the band in 2010.
