People who attended Marcus Miller’s residency at the Blue Note Jazz Club in New York witnessed a historic funk bass super jam. Bass titans Marcus Miller, Victor Wooten, MonoNeon, and Derrick Hodge joined forced on Marcus’s last day of residency and made history as a bass quartet jam.
Blue Note is a place which has long been the epicenter to hear once-in-a-lifetime improvised performances and to catch spontaneous collaborations from the jazz world’s top players such as last weeks bass super jam.
The four phenoms united onstage during Marcus Miller’s Blue Note residency’s final night, according to photos and videos shared on social media.
Even with the sound turned off, it’s clear that everyone on and off stage is locked into the groove. With MonoNeon using his trusty whammy pedal to raise the pitch of his bass and pluck a melody to complement Victor Wooten’s chords, while Miller and Hodge provide percussive slapping and low-end thump, respectively it was a night that will be hard to forget.
