In December 2020, Ernie Ball Music Man introduced two new basses in their collection. This new release is part of the new Ball Family Reserve release. Ernie Ball on their website describes that

“The Ball family is the last of a dying breed, a family business making premium guitars and basses on the California central coast since 1984. Sterling Ball, alongside his sons Brian and Scott, combine the laser precision of robotics and old-world hand craftsmanship to develop innovative instrument designs that push the boundaries of performance and playability.”

The two Music Man basses are a Stingray Special 4 and a Stingray Special 5. Both basses come with a unique paint that is specific to the model.

The Stingray Special 4 string comes in a natural finish on a lightweight Okoume body. It also boasts a classic looking black pickguard and passive electronics. This Stingray Special 4 string bass also has a push-pull volume boost and it has a 3-way pickup selector switch. It also has 22 stainless steel frets over a rosewood fingerboard and a highly figured flame maple neck. This bass is going to be limited to 80 pieces worldwide at a price of $2,499.

The second bass in this release is going to be the Ernie Ball Music Man Stingray Special 5. This bass has a really cool looking Kinetic Blue Finish all with matching headstock as well, over an Ash body. The active electronics are rear-mounted so that way they were able to have a streamlined look, without a pickguard. It has 22 stainless steel frets over an Ebony fingerboard.

This bass is going to be limited to 85 pieces worldwide at a price of $2,799.
