Lonerism by Tame Impala turned ten this fall, and the band performed the entire record at the Desert Daze festival in California to commemorate the milestone. The Lonerism 10th Anniversary Box Set was announced last week for release on May 26th, with pre-orders commencing here.
The three-LP box set includes a 24-page booklet, previously unreleased Lonerism demos, and never-before-heard demo sessions. Erin Knutson and Immanuel Yang created the anniversary edition artwork, with additional photography by Matt Sav and Kevin Parker.
In a recent Instagram post, Parker stated it’s “impossible to sum exactly what the album means to me at this stage. Making music for me was a remarkable experience, and that was when I truly discovered myself as an artist. Following the release of ‘Innerspeaker,’ I felt a renewed feeling of purpose…calling…whatever you want. I’d finally permitted myself to let music entirely take over my being…to become utterly immersed in my world of music-making.
As a result, I felt a new sense of creative freedom. I felt free to be ambitious, strange, pop, experimental, or anything I wanted since I was finally doing it for myself and believed in myself, for the most part.
Tame Impala’s second album, Lonerism, was recorded at Kevin Parker’s home studio in Perth and Paris. “Lonerism is portable and joyful, a soundtrack for walking downtown and looking up at a collection of skyscrapers, or driving through a mountain pass on an interstate…embodying and promoting a wakeful and passive state of psychedelia,” Pitchfork wrote. The singles “Feels Like We Only Go Backwards” and “Elephant” from the album got worldwide commercial radio play and infinite film and TV sync licensing, catapulting Tame Impala into the mainstream.
The album was nominated for Best Alternative Album at the 56th Annual GRAMMY Awards. Furthermore, it won many ARIA Awards in Parker’s home nation of Australia. Since its debut, Lonerism has been certified gold and platinum by the RIAA in numerous areas, with approximately 2 billion lifetime streams.
Tame Impala (Kevin Parker) recently collaborated with Gorillaz on “New Gold (Feat. Tame Impala & Bootie Brown).” Parker appeared on two major picture soundtracks this summer. He collaborated with the iconic Diana Ross on the song “Turn Up The Sunshine,” featured on the Minions: Rise of the Gru soundtrack. He was asked to reimagine “Edge Of Reality” for Baz Luhrman’s Elvis.
Parker has emerged as one of the last decade’s most influential voices. Tame Impala, best known for their spectacular live performances, has performed at festivals and theaters worldwide and produced four full-length albums: InnerSpeaker, Lonerism, Currents, and The Slow Rush. Parker has worked as a writer and producer with today’s top artists and performers.
