After a four-decade career, 10 enormously successful studio albums, and many successful tours later, one would wonder what’s next for Metallica?

But for James Hetfield, Robert Trujillo, and company, the answer is clear: take all of their expertise and experience from years of rigorous writing and touring, and teach their devoted fans how to form and be a band.

Metallica

Yes, MasterClass, the online platform that connects experts from hundreds of areas, like acting, music, and culinary, with prospective students all around the world, has teamed with the most legendary hard rockers for their latest course.

Metallica Teaches Being a Band is a collection of 15 videos totaling 2 hours and 45 minutes in which Hetfield, Kirk Hammett, Rob Trujillo, and Lars Ulrich offer advice on everything from songwriting, writing lyrics, and creating your own sound to ensure your band’s longevity through constructive criticism and ego management.

Deconstructions of several of Metallica’s biggest songs, including Master of Puppets and Enter Sandman, are also featured in the course, as well as a full live pro-shot performance.

To watch the course, it is a $14.99 fee for a MasterClass subscription (billed annually). In return, you’ll have access to over 100 other courses not just from Metallica, but also from instructors like Tom Morello, St. Vincent, Herbie Hancock, and many more.

Meanwhile, we’re still waiting for the band’s next album. In August, Kirk Hammett mentioned in an interview that “I think the sense now is that people need music more than ever to bring everyone together and jointly celebrate that we’ve gotten to this point.”

Metallica has been commemorating the 30th anniversary of their seminal self-titled album, often known as The Black Album, for the past few months.

In September, The Metallica Blacklist album was released. This album is a vast compilation in which 53 various artists pay tribute to the Black Album with their own interpretations.

Weezer’s relatively authentic rendition of Enter Sandman, St. Vincent’s industrial-leaning cover of Sad But True, and J Balvin’s hip-hop remix of Wherever I May Roam are among the highlights.
